H.E. President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, has ordered the Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia, against releasing illicit money amounting to USD 9.6m which was seized by our gallant Somali Security forces on 8th April, 2018 at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu.
The details of the Presidential Letter addressed to the Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia;
As you are aware, on 8th April 2018, our security forces seized illicit money on transit worth 9.6 million US dollars.
The illegal entry of this undeclared money into our Republic posed a threat to our national security and the stability of our financial systems.
The suspicious movement of this illicit money, whose transfer also abused international remittance laws and our national financial regulations, caused its placement under the Central Bank of Somalia.
As the Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia, our national financial regulator, I order you against authorising the withdrawal or disbursement of this money from the Central Bank for release to any entity or accepting any instructions from any single official since that goes against our national financial regulations.
